Inspiration for Storytelling
Sometimes a child needs some inspiration to get started with their story.
These little sparks will not limit their imagination, but they might help getting the story going.
Choose one of the pictures as your opening scene. That might be enough for you child and an elaborate tale will just start flowing. If the child needs some help to take the next steps, you can use the little individual pictures for extra inspiration.
Creative storytelling is a goal as is. You can also use this material to create stories about a specific theme, when you want to develop the vocabulary or when you are discussing elements of a narrative. The opening scene imagery can connect to emotional skills, math, geography, biology, and physics – depending on which details you decide to focus on. The extra pictures help you elaborate on the story, broaden the theme, or just bring in new surprise elements.
1. Start with what you see.
- Where is the story happening?
- Who is the story character?
- What is happening in the beginning of the story?
2. Bring new things to the scene.
- Who else do you want to invite to the story?
- What things do you want to bring? Explain each new item
3. What happens between the characters?
- What happens when the characters meet for the first time?
- How does our first character feel?
- How does the second character feel?
4. Add an ending to the story.
- Does the story need new items or characters?
- What happens between the characters?
- How do the characters feel now?
- How does the story end?
There is more to the stories that meets the eye!
